Just to verify what IPHDA offers riders:
IPHDA offers Dressage tests judged against dressage principles as well as other developmental type classes and fun classes.
Here is a list of IPHDA classes
The reasons we offer Any Tack Dressage is to offer something to members that want to be judged against dressage principles of balance.
The reason we developed PHD is to assist members that wish to develop a balance that promotes more efficient horses for most other events besides dressage.
Western Dressage is a miss leading term, and the reason we did not select the name for PHD. The term Western Dressage insinuates there is a difference between western and english horses and we totally disagree with that, horses are the same the riders make them english or western.
If you disagree then we only ask you to describe an english horse and a western horse? If you have any other difference in the description besides the tack and the event the rider wishes to do then we would like to hear them. Yes some horses that are more suited for english or western events, but that alone does not make them one type of horse or another.
The difference between PHD and WD is the balance being developed, one asks for and develops elevation of the shoulders, the other develops the ability to go forward flat with ground covering strides and back to shoulder supporting balance without elevation. Elevation in a performance horse is just as detrimental to the ability to move laterally smoothly as to heavy on the forehand is to the ability to move forward with longer strides.
The main difference in the PHD patterns and our Any Tack dressage tests is in the evaluation of how certain maneuvers that are commonly known as dressage maneuvers are to be performed. It is that difference that develops the different balance both longitudinally and laterally.
So whether you are interested in Western dressage as dressage in a western saddle or interested in a progressive set of developmental patterns that help develop better balance and control for most other events, or you enjoy riding and showing off with your horse and being recognized for your successes IPHDA has something for you!
PHD assists all riders except dressage horses and the AQHA western pleasure class, One encourages to much elevation to be proficient at anything but their event. The other promotes a short strided heavy on the forehand abortion of a natural gait.
